Bin Care All of your bins have a serial number. Recording these numbers will assist in tracking your bins if they are lost or stolen. Council encourages you to take care of your bins so that you do not have to pay for replacements. Street number stickers are available from Council’s Customer Service Centre free of charge, or if you prefer, many hardware stores have similar stickers available for purchase. If your bin becomes damaged, lost or stolen, please contact Council’s Waste Hotline on 9748 9611. Bins remain the property of Council at all times and must be left at the property if you move house (even if you move next door!). It is an offence to purposely damage, steal or remove Council property. In multi unit dwellings, Strata Managers or the equivalent have a responsibility to ensure recycling and waste management is adequate, healthy and safe. Please contact Council’s Waste Hotline on 9748 9611 if Strata Management at your multi unit dwelling is not responding to requests for appropriate recycling and waste management. Dumped Rubbish All reports of illegally dumped rubbish will be investigated for identifiable features that may ascertain the owner/dumper of the material. Heavy fines apply for persons found dumping material on private or public land. People illegally dumping materials on Council’s footways may be liable to penalties under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997. These include on the spot fines of $1500 for the owner of the rubbish and the person who illegally dumped the material. To report incidences of illegal dumping please phone Council’s Customer Service Centre on 9748 9999. Commercial Waste Disposal Council is currently researching options for a non-residential service. At the present time, those requiring a commercial and/or industrial waste collection service should organise their own service via a private contractor. |
